This ITA Approved Red Seal Program is recognized as the interprovincial standard of excellence in the skilled trades. The program provides greater mobility across Canada for skilled workers. Successful completion of the Hairdressing Foundation program at Emerald College provides students with the first level of technical training toward their Hairstylist qualification and Red Seal Endorsement. The Red Seal Program acknowledges your competence and ensures recognition of your Red Seal certification throughout Canada without further examination.
Students will be trained by qualified hairstylists/instructors, to gain knowledge in advanced modem color techniques, color correction, creative custom foiling applications and hair lightening. Training in hair texture services includes an application of modem chemical texturizing techniques. The haircutting segment provides the foundation for modem cutting and texturizing techniques, razor and clipper cutting and all facets of wet and dry hairstyling.
Course Prerequisites
- Graduates of Grade 12 or 19 years of age or older. Will accept students less than 19 years of age with parental consent; parental consent must be given by signing of Emerald College contract.
- Candidates must provide a copy of photo ID, a current resume, and 500 word essay; tell us about yourself, why you are pursuing this career choice, your short term and long term goals, and your plans for your career in the future.
- This is an unmarked essay to be read by the Senior Administrator and Senior Educational Administrator.
Student Aid BC Financial Assistance: Candidates must be 19 years of age or older before the start of classes OR have graduated grade 12 or equivalent to be eligible for student financial assistance with SABC (Student Aid BC). Photo ID must be provided for proof of age prior to start of the program and a copy will be included in the candidate’s student file.
